Dear Rally Friends,
In this edition of the Newsletter, we publish the starting location and route of the 69th Tulpenrallye in 2023. We have taken into account the recommendations that we received from participants in the last rally. Two of them, the starting location not too far from the Netherlands and starting two days from the same location (as in Colmar this year), were at the top of the list. The 69th Tulpenrallye 2023 will start in Vichy, the city we also visited in 2021. It is a historic city in the south of France with an enthusiastic population. The centrally located square near the Tulpenrallye Head Quarter has plenty of parking and cars can stay overnight.
We are also making an important change in the Tulpenrallye’s regulations regarding the age of cars to be admitted.
As Organizing Committee, we are now preparing for the opening of registration on the 5th of November 2022. The invitation will be sent by mail on 4th of November 2022. We are looking forward to your response.

Tulpenrallye aan tafel #8
Werner Budding talks to Frank Pauli, Kees van Loon, Jan Berkhof and the winners of the last Tulpenrallye: Hans van der Kooij and Bas de Rijk. Hans and Bas share their experiences from the last edition and their preparations for next year.
Frank, Kees and Jan talk about the 69th Tulpenrallye, of which the official part will start on Sunday 5th of May, 2023. They will take us through the outline of the planned route from Vichy to Valkenburg. Much of the focus in 2023 is on the difficulty of the rally. Route
As Organizing Committee, we are convinced that our Route Managers Jan and Erwin Berkhof have again composed a challenging route. The Head Quarter locations are not too far apart. There are many openings to challenge the Sporting and Expert class even further by extra loops and tricky constructions. The 69th Tulpenrallye starts in Vichy, west of Lyon in the south of France. The area around Vichy provides many navigational opportunities that we will use. The Route Managers have found something special for us for the first day, in which one will profit from a car without the weight of luggage. We will return to Vichy after the first rally day and spend the night there again. The next Head Quarter venue is in Beaune, where we shall arrive on Tuesday evening. On Wednesday, we finish in Troyes, a place new to the Tulpenrallye. This year we will skip Colmar, and the Tulpenrallye will end in Nancy on Thursday. We really liked this place in the 2022 rally. Dinner will be organized in one central location this time. Traditionally, we visit Luxembourg on Friday after which the Tulpenrallye finishes in Valkenburg on Saturday.

Adjustment of regulations
After long discussions, the Organizing Committee has decided to increase the age limit of cars to be admitted by one year to before January 1st, 1973 (Article 6.1 – Cars to be admitted). This means the youngest cars will be 50 years old in 2023. Not decided yet, but the idea is to apply the 50-year limit in future editions. The last adjustment of the age limit was more than 15 years ago. The main argument is that the car fleet is ageing, becoming more difficult to maintain or its value is too high to use in rallies. Shifting this age limit provides us more options.

Tulpenrallye violet flowers
From a loyal participant we received a particularly nice photo that we would like to share. During a lunch stop (departure from Horbourg-Wihr), each participant received a small packet of violet seeds from the owner of the restaurant. The owner was very happy about our visit. He had had two tough corona years and wanted to make a nice and positive gesture. We are really curious to find out if many participants did sow the violets! At least with this participant, the result was very successful.

Registration for the 69th Tulpenrallye
As usual, registration for the 68th Tulpenrallye is by invitation only. This invitation will be sent out on Friday November 4th, 2022. By that time we shall also publish the draft regulations and the HQ locations of the rally. Registration will open on Saturday November 5th, 2022 at 10.00 hrs and will close (if there are enough registrations) on Saturday November 12th 2022 at 20.00 hrs. There is no rush to register, take your time! This will give you the opportunity to register correctly and add current photos. If there are too many entries, a draw will be made, regardless of the date and time of your entry. On Sunday November 20th, 2022 at 20.00 hrs the initial list of participants will be put online.
