Dear Rally Friends,

We live in confusing times. While an almost euphoric feeling goes through the country Whilst feeling almost euphoric because all corona measures are ended, a terrible war is going on in Ukraine We have mixed feelings when publishing a newsletter about one of the most beautiful Dutch events: the Tulpenrallye. We sympathize with all the inhabitants of the Ukraine.

The 68th Tulpenrallye is well under way. All participating Dutch crews received the acceptance letter including the assigned starting number on March 16th, 2022. All the foreign equips will receive their acceptance letter in a few days. We are proud that only seven months after the previous edition such a large group will appear at the start again. For a small number of potential participants there is still a vacancy in the starting field. Sign up quickly or contact the Rallyoffice.

Each year the Tulpenrallye links a good cause to the edition to be held. This time we have chosen the Diabetes Research Netherlands Foundation (DON). In this newsletter, DON introduces itself. Last year, with over 400 participants and 85 volunteers, we raised the great amount of € 30,000,- for Orange Babies. Together with DON, our ambition this year is to surpass this amount by a wide margin, and we need your generous help to do so. DON will be visible at the start of the Tulpenrallye in Frankfurt. Of course, during this rally the Tulpenrallye organizes some fundraising actions together with DON.

For the Dutch participants, the mandatory conformity inspection will take place on Saturday April 16th, 2022 in the Autotron in Rosmalen. The Organization Committee is looking forward to the coming Tulpenrallye and meeting all (Dutch) participants, sponsors/partners and volunteers during the conformity check!

With kind regards,
Organization Committee 68th Tulpenrallye

About the rally

The past months Jan and Erwin Berkhof (Routechefs) have completed the rally. From January on, Kees van Hattum (permits) has been working daily to obtain all the exemptions. Positive reports are coming in from the many municipalities, districts and so on. We are confident that all exemptions will be received in time.

On Sunday March 20th, 2022 Jan Berkhof and Willem van Leeuwen (Clerk of the course) travelled together to the start in Frankfurt. They will drive from Monday till Saturday the exact same rally as the competitors will do in May. They will drive in the same time schedule with the concept map material. With this drive, the Routechef and the Clerk of the course will try to cut out possible errors and discussion points from the rally.

There are few large hotels in Nancy. Crews using the hotel package deal will be accommodated in quite a number of hotels. The organization will use Grand Hotel De La Reine as its headquarter. We advise teams who arrange their own hotels to do so in the city center. Dinner will be served in the city center near Place Stanislas. The start of the next day will be on the west side of Nancy.

Maarten Kalk is the new Head of the Results centre. Together with iSource, Maarten has made a huge progress with the automation we want to build this year. iSource has been our loyal partner for more than 15 years, taking care of the ‘back end’ of our calculator.

Dress code closing party

At the 67th Tulpenrallye we provided all participants with a Tulpenrallye jacket or dress. With this we accompany the transition from the price giving party in dinner jacket to the prize giving party in summer chic. When we look at the photos, we think it was very successful. Everyone looked festive. We ask participants to stick to the dress code summer chic again this year. We advise the ladies to wear the Tulpenrallye dress or their own festive combination/creation. Gentlemen of course in jackets.

Gravenbrucher Tour

On Sunday May 8th, 2022 the participants of the 68th Tulpenrallye can take part in the Gravenbrucher Tour practice ride. Between 12.00 and 15.00 hours a route book can be picked up at the Headquarters. Participation is free of charge and there are no classifications. Registration is necessary on April 16th, 2022 during the document check in the Autotron (only Dutch equipes). Foreign equipes registrar at the headquarter in Frankfurt. In the last newsletter before the Tulpenrallye we will publish a starting list for this Gravenbrucher Tour.

Stichting DON just cares for cure

Stichting DON is fighting for just one thing: the complete cure for type 1 diabetes.
Over 120,000 people in the Netherlands are confronted daily with the impact of this disease on their lives. Their perspective? No chance of recovery. Stichting DON wants to change this perspective by investing in fundamental and clinical research. Every cent donated goes directly to top researchers who conduct innovative and pioneering research from renowned laboratories around the world.
Stichting DON is very grateful to be the charity of the 68th edition of the Tulpenrallye, looks forward to the start of the race in Frankfurt and wishes all participants a wonderful ride!

Corona update

Currently, the corona rules have been further reduced in many countries. However, there is little uniformity in this. We would like to point out to all participants that everyone themself is responsible for any rules that apply in the countries that the 68th Tulpenrallye will be visiting. As Tulpenrallye organization, our attention will be focused on possible corona outbreaks and not on the control of the formalities. The latter has been well organized by the authorities. Should anyone doubt his or her health, a possible infection, etc., please use a quick test immediately and report a positive test to a member of the organization committee. If no test is available, ask a committee member for help in obtaining one.

(Hiscox periodically provides a column on its own title and editorial)

Besides insuring classic cars, Hiscox also insures houses, household effects and business risks. This time we will tell you what happened with a claim that has taken place.

A wealthy family has long occupied a beautiful building on the Herengracht in Amsterdam. For as long as they can remember, pigeons have been nesting in the gutter. The family has never been bothered by them. One day, when the residents are not at home, one of the pigeons takes a wrong turn and enters the house through the small window, taking a seat on the design sofa. Fortunately, the family owns an enterprising and watchful cat named Baudelaire. Like a real tiger, Baudelaire sneaks up on his prey and, out of nowhere, jumps on his victim. The pigeon is startled and a wild chase through the living room ensues. Baudelaire finally manages to catch the pigeon and – very content, and proud of his trophy – he waits for the family to come home. Whether his owners will be happy, however, remains to be seen. During the chase, the interior was not spared. The living room is a big mess, the floor is strewn with feathers, but also with candlesticks, candles, picture frames, etc. Unfortunately, during the hunting party, Baudelaire also knocked over two precious vases made of Murano glass. The value: € 5,000 each.

Damage caused by the insured’s own animals or pets is not insured under the household effects heading. Fortunately for the family, the vases are separately insured under the heading of art objects, which does cover damage caused by pets.
